Silifke Castle — Mersin
Silifke Castle — in Silifke district. A medieval castle with 23 bastions on a hill overlooking the Göksu Valley; the city's best vantage point.

About
Silifke Castle is a castle on a 185-metre-high hill right behind the city centre, with foundations going back to the Hellenistic period. Its present appearance was largely gained through Byzantine and Seljuk/Ottoman repairs; 23 bastions are counted on its oval-planned walls. Inside there are cisterns, storage and building remains.
The castle is climbed mainly for its view: the bends of the Göksu River, Taşköprü, the city and the sea in the distance are seen in a single glance. There is a vehicle road to the top. Entry is generally free; be careful at the bastion edges for safety. It can be toured in the same half day as Silifke Museum and Taşköprü.
