About
At the foundations of Mamure Castle lies a Roman castle dated to the 3rd century; the imposing structure seen today was largely built in the 13th century under the Karamanids and later repaired by the Ottomans. With its area exceeding 23.500 m², its 39 towers and its walls reaching into the sea, it is one of Turkey's largest coastal castles.
The courtyard contains the remains of a mosque, a bath and cisterns; it is possible to climb the bastions and watch the horizon stretching towards Anamur Point and Cyprus. The beach right next to the castle is suitable for combining the visit with a swim break. MüzeKart is valid; sections under restoration may be periodically closed.
