About
Anemurium is a port city founded at Anamur Point, Anatolia's southernmost tip, and inhabited continuously from the 4th century BC to the 7th century AD. In the area, divided into an upper and a lower city, walls, three baths, a theatre, an odeon, a palestra and mosaic-floored buildings have survived; the city's fabric has remained largely intact because it was abandoned after the Arab raids of the 7th century.
The 350 or so monumental tombs in the necropolis and the frescoes inside some of them are among the city's most impressive parts. Since the site is by the sea, the visit can be combined with the beach; the area can be toured with MüzeKart. Shade is scarce in summer — bring a hat and water.
